Your Mission

You know: There is more to data science than data analysis. We are building data-driven products (as for example a car recommender chatbot) and machine-learning enabled products (e.g. an automated language teacher). In order to do so we make use of exploratory data analysis, NLP, deep learning. Of course, we do data analysis projects for our customers with the goal to implement our insights. And we help our customers to build up innovative and modern data platforms.

As the Head of Data Science you build up a state-of-the-art data science team with a clear focus on the complete product. Pragmatic and always with the big picture in mind you extend our value proposition, built up the team and run a successful part of our business.

We are looking for someone to enrich our team – full time employees only.


Your Work

  • Together with our customers you break down generic ideas into tasks, structure high-level approaches, describe them, define the process of how to tackle customer challenges, estimate the effort for implementation
  • You deliver customer projects (usually the most complex and challenging ones)
  • For your department you identify topics relevant to the market and how we can approach them, operationalize the overall strategy for the data science department and present your department publicly (conferences, meetups, etc.)
  • You understand complex digital business models, recognize industry- / business-model-specific challenges and distinguish them from customer individual challenges. You bring together creativity and experience in order to solve these challenges with data science approaches
  • For your team you structure tasks, set and track goals. You understand needs and challenges of each team member and actively help them to prosper and to improve their technical and soft skills
  • For the identified needs and gaps within the team (knowledge and soft skills), find experts who might fit and connect to potential colleagues and assess their potential

What we expect from you

Requirements

  • Degree in computer science, data science, bioinformatics or any other natural science
  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience
  • Work experience with digital products, deep knowledge about the process from business requirements, over modelling to deployment
  • Programming skills with python and related data science libraries like pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, etc.
  • Existing professional network, confident with speaking on events and conferences
  • Optional: experience with leading a team

Soft Skills

  • Ability to develop a high-level view, structure complex problems and break them down
  • You enjoy talking to people and are able to express complex things in a comprehensible way
  • You inspire others to tackle challenges and bring yourself and your team to the next level
  • Passion for the endless possibilities of data science, machine learning and AI

Im Rahmen eines ersten Gesprächs per Telefon oder direkt bei uns im Büro lernst du uns, unsere Arbeitsweise und was uns wichtig ist etwas besser kennen. Auf der anderen Seite möchten wir etwas mehr über dich erfahren: was kannst du, was treibt dich an, was willst du erreichen? Danach entscheiden wir die nächsten Schritte

In dem Gespräch lernst du deinen neuen Fachbereich kennen. Wir diskutieren gemeinsam mit dir die aktuellen Entwicklungen und deine bisherigen Erfahrungen. Meist ist auch eine kleine Testaufgabe oder sogar eine "Hausaufgabe" Bestandteil, um dein fachliches Wissen besser einschätzen zu können.
